‘Everlasting’ Cauliflowers

This amazing plant produces around ten or more sweet and succulent creamy-white curds not only for a single season, as do ordinary cauliflowers, but year after year for many seasons.

They thrive in rich soil but will grow equally well in light and sandy soils, especially when compost or manure can be dug into the ground. If this is not possible the plants can be fed with a liquid plant food.

In spring it helps to sprinkle a handful of lime around the plants or on the area to be planted. (But do not do this in naturally limey areas). A little general fertiliser can also be added for bumper crops.

Cut the curds regularly as they reach the size you require, but do not remove the leaves as these protect the new shoots that will produce still more curds.

Everlasting Cauliflowers are so versatile that when the plant has finished cropping for the season the old leaves can be removed and the fresh green leaves used as greens. It must be loved by everyone except greengrocers!

Special note: We think we should point out how easy it is to grow Everlasting Cauliflowers. If you have difficulty growing good ‘caulis’ of the conventional type then this is the plant for you.
