Hedging and screening plants                         Plants Main Menu

Bright and BOLD, Tree Lupins will withstand the toughest winters.
Grow the biggest, brightest and boldest evergreen lupins ever! Deliciously fragrant, to form a beautiful hedge or screen, or as a focal point in any garden.
Our Scottish customers tell us their Tree Lupins have survived winters as low as minus 12 degrees C, so what more proof of their ‘winter worth’ could you have?
Once you have planted Tree Lupins they will go on growing year-after-year without
replanting - a real investment. They reach a height of approximately 5 feet, so just trim them to the height you require.
They are called ‘Tree Lupins’ due to the plant having a ‘trunk-like’ stem, rather like a small tree. Why Tree Lupins can be a good choice for your garden:
• Long flowering period • In leaf all-yearround
• Fully winter hardy: ice, snow and frost are no problem • Tough •
Resilient • Easy • Beautiful blooms • Delighful screen or informal hedge.
We recommend planting 3-foot apart.
How do Tree Lupins differ from ‘ordinary’ lupins? Varieties such as Russell Lupins die down to the ground each winter, sprouting again the next year.
They have soft stems. The Tree Lupin develops a tough bark-like stem, rather as a small tree does; hence the name. They remain in leaf all year and the blooms are far more numerous than the spikes of ‘ordinary’ garden Lupins. Supplied as a mixture of naturally-varying shades, which may include cream, white, yellow and, sometimes, blue.
